We conducted activities to introduce “Fusen Volleyball (Balloon Volleyball)” and “Takkyu Volleyball (Table Tennis Volleyball)” in Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina to promote symbiotic sports (sports in which elderly people and disabled people can participate widely regardless of the presence/absence, type, or degree of their disability).

In the three countries, we held a total of seven classes, five demonstrations and one symposium for handicapped welfare officials, sports officials, teachers, government officials, handicapped person leaders and others.
For people in the target countries, “Fusen Volleyball” and “Takkyu Volleyball,” sports devised in Japan in which all generations can participate regardless of handicaps, were novel ideas and the high level of interest among participants was impressive. Under the instructor’s skilled facilitation, the practical time was very exciting and full of laughter. In addition, this initiative triggered the formation of a network of leaders to disseminate these sports across Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.

Feedback from Participant :

Through the workshop, our understanding for symbiotic sports increased, and connections between participants were made. We are enjoying takkyu volleyball and fusen volleyball with our residents using the equipment we received. (From a staff member of a facility for the elderly in Paraguay who took part in the workshops)
