The “34th Shonen Baseball World Cup” was held again at the Edogawa City Baseball Stadium (opening ceremony) and the Edogawa City Rinkai Ball Park (game venue) this year over four days from July 29 (Friday) to August 1 (Monday). The IBA World Cup is held annually for the purpose of spreading and developing youth baseball and international exchange.

“Chinese Taipei” won the event for the first time in four years! Japanese representatives “All Osaka” also fought well, coming in second place. The participating teams this year included seven overseas teams from Australia, Brazil, China, Chinese Taipei, Paraguay, Peru and Singapore. There were five teams from Japan – Japan 1, Japan 2, Japan 3 (Yadabe Junior Stars), All Edogawa, and Japan girls (Funabashi girls selected players). The foreign children socialized at a welcome party divided into each region, and experienced cultural exchanges and valuable experiences that can only be had at this age through homestays.

Feedback from Local Contacts :

Mr. Elard Alberto Escala Sanchez-Barreto, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Peru in Japan
Peru’s national team has been practicing for two years under a Japanese coach to participate in this tournament. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who came to Peru.
Mr. Naoyuki Toyotoshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Paraguay in Japan
Unfortunately, baseball has not been played so much in Paraguay, but Japanese migrants are now in the third-generation era. Baseball is growing gradually focused on Japanese descendants, and I think that it will continue to grow.
